Appleid disabled in app store

I had a horrible experience with apple last week. I received an email (legit) from apple to update my payment info, for which I logged on to my App Store. When I tried updating the info, I received a message that said I need to contact iTunes support. I chatted with the support person who said he had put in a request and I should be able to update my payment info after 24 hours. The next day, when I tried logging into the App Store, nothing had changed. After calling support, I was told that my Apple ID (which I have had since 2006), was permanently disabled from the App Store. No explanation. The support person sent me a link to ‘terms and services’ and absolutely no explanation. So basically, I am shut out of my App Store, no updates to any of my purchased apps, family sharing is effected, cannot download previous purchases, nothing. So my question is…is this legal? I have not received any explanation from apple, and it appears they can just do this with no warning. How about the financial loss that I have incurred? Being a user of apple products for the past 15 years, I am quite let down by these guys. Anyone have a similar experience? Any work-around?

The people responding on this forum are largely users like you. We do not work for Apple. The few who do work for Apple don't handle this kind of issue. You will need to contact Apple about resolving this. If you want legal references:

Apple Media Services Terms and Conditions - http://www.apple.com/legal/internet-services/itunes/us/terms.html

I'll add that your actual loss depends upon what you bought. Many things such as subscriptions only last a certain amount of time, so at most you may be talking about a year's worth, not 15 years. As for purchases such as movies or music, you should always download those and make sure you maintain backups. If you read the iTunes terms they tell you to do that because they cannot guarantee something will always be available for re-download.
