There is news that Whatsapp will stop working on some older iPhones from November 1, 2021.

I have an iPhone 5s running on Version 12.

Will Whatsapp continue to work on my iPhone 5s

after 1st November 2021?

I would contact Whatsapp support team and ask for an official/proper answer.
