Voice to text adds contacts in when I say name... don't want

When I say a name in the voice to text in a message and I mention a name, lets say 'Steve' it pulls in a contact name from my phone. The issues is, I'm not always talking about THAT Steve and I often have silly emojis to tell people with similar names apart. So then it'll be 'emoji' NAME 'emoji' instead of just the name. Is there a way to disable the chat from pulling contact names in and JUST having the name?

Hi SSaunders22,

Thanks for the information. While you're not using Siri to compose the message, we'd recommend checking your Siri & Search suggestions for the Message and Contact apps. The guide here can help you check: Change Siri settings on iPhone Specifically, the sections "Change where Siri Suggestions appear" and "Change Siri settings for a specific app."

You can also check to see if the contact information is being pulled when using dictation in another app: Dictate text on iPhone

As this guide doesn't have specifics on if the contact information pulled when using the feature can be turned off.

However, the details for how Dictation privacy is used can be found here: Ask Siri, Dictation & Privacy

You can also test deleting your linked data to see if the information is still synced. "You can delete request history associated with a random identifier and retained for six months by going to Settings > Siri & Search > Siri & Dictation History and tapping Delete Siri & Dictation History."

If you continue to have trouble after checking and adjusting your settings. Reach out to Apple Support directly to further assist.

Hi SSaunders22,

To clarify the information from the previous article shared. Ask Siri, Dictation & Privacy

"When you use Siri and Dictation, your device will send other Siri Data, such as:

• Contact names, nicknames, and relationships (for example, “my dad”), if you set them up in your contacts

• Music and podcasts you enjoy

• Names of your and your Family Sharing members’ devices

• Names of accessories, homes, scenes, and members of a shared home in the Home app

• Labels for items, such as people names in Photos, Alarm names, and names of Reminders lists

• Names of apps installed on your device and shortcuts you added through Siri"

As there is no setting listed in Settings > General > Keyboards we recommend you check Settings > Siri & Search to see if you had 'Show Contact Suggestions' enabled. If the latter didn't resolve the issue, it's possible there is no feature where this can be disabled.

Again, you can reach out to Apple Support directly to further assist.

Additionally, you can leave feedback here: Product Feedback

Take care!

Hello SSaunders22,

Thanks for reaching out to Apple Support Communities. It sounds like you're having an issue with dictation on your iPhone. We're happy to provide some information to assist.

We'd recommend using last names with your contact information to quickly use Siri to identify which person you're attempting to reach out to. If needed, the guide here has the steps to help ensure you settings are correct: Add and use contact information on iPhone

Additionally, you can correct the information using Siri and the steps in the section "Make a correction if Siri misunderstands you" in the guide here: Ask Siri on iPhone

Best!

That wasn't helpful at all! The update before this never pulled in contact names when I said them. I now can't say ANY names in my messages without my contacts being pulled into the message, especially since it's not the same person I'm talking about. How do I turn this off? I want to be able to say a name without it pulling from my contact information. Is that so freaking hard for someone to answer?!
