Charge to Full Now option is missing on M1 MacBook Air

Hi, on my MacBook Air (M1, 2020) with macOS Big Sur 11.6, I am not able to see option "Charge to Full Now" which is described in this article https://support.apple.com/en-md/HT212049. Is there something to be changed in setting to make the option visible? Otherwise I am not able to charge my battery to full when I need it.

MacBook Air 13″, macOS 11.4

I can't see the mentioned option regardless of actual charge of battery. Usually battery is not charging even on 30% percents, which is strange for me.

If it isn't charging beyond 30%, that has nothing to do with optimized charging. The option in the menu would not solve your problem. Optimized charging takes it to about 80%, then fully charges when it expects you are going to wake it up.

Your battery appears to be defective. You should take it to an Apple Store or Authorized repair center for evaluation.

Before taking to Apple for Evaluation which is a good idea - consider running this Free or Paid for Application coconutBattery 3

It is harmless and will only read from the same sensors as the Builtin sensor macOS Big Sur is reading. It will give a Designed Reading of the amps against what is actually on the battery.

This may further indicated with Previous person is mentioning about a failing battery

Hi, P. Phillips,

thanks for your quick response, but it actually didn't answer my question :) My laptop was bought before two months and battery has little charging cycles processed. I can't see the mentioned option regardless of actual charge of battery. Usually battery is not charging even on 30% percents, which is strange for me. If I have the option in menu, it will definitely solve my frustration to not able to charge battery before I leaving the office and need it on go.

Batteries are considered Consumable Products. Over time it will degrade to a point where it needs to be replaced. The usage is normal as the capacity will go up and down all the time and never stay always at 100%. Apple Batteries are rated for 1000 Full Battery Cycles and / or 80% Capacity before needing Evaluation or replacement.

For additional reading on Battery and Apple Computers this link may help. About battery health management in Mac notebooks and especially for the M1 and Big Sur If battery charging is paused or on hold on your Mac

Depending on the Age of the computer, some aspects from the above links, may or may not apply to your computer.

A feature introduced into Big Sur was to preserve the number of Full Battery Cycles - there was an Algorithm coded into the macOS. It is perfectly Normal for Big Sur to Pause / Suspend charging the battery beyond 80% and hold it at that level. One can nudge / over-ride this by clicking the Battery Icon on Desktop Top Bar and allow charging beyond 80%. From observations, it will Pause / Suspend again once reading 90%. Same procedure to over-ride and will charge to 100%

I was having the same issue, the charge to full now option disappeared on my mba m1 that runs Monterey 12.1, so to try and resolve, I tried draining it until 60%, and then charge it, it charges, but stops again at 76% cant get past that, after that I decided to turnoff the optimize charging and then restart, after that, it started to charge past 76%. so I think its optimize charging that's a little buggy right now. Hope that helps

Use Diagnostics to test your Mac

https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT202731

Can you run the user Diagnostic...not as definitive as Apple's own AST2 (Apple Service Toolkit) back bench diagnostic, but may kick out an error code, battery related...
