Your tool of choice to Sync Mac folders with iPad folders without using iCloud

Hello,

I've searched in the forums but still have 2 questions:

1. How can I sync (bi-directional sync) Mac folders with iPad folders WITHOUT using iCloud? Is there a way to do this within the Mac/iPad operating system functionality? (NOTE: Folders are of Photos and Video files but don't want to use Apple Photos or iCloud)

OR, if not available within the Mac/iPad functionality...

2. Your tool of choice to do this? Many are available: Syncthing with Mobius, NextCloud, Resilio Sync are a few I've seen. What is your tool of choice? I will eventually be going to a personal cloud on a NAS, so would like a tool works that will well for when I go that direction.

My hardware: M1 Mac mini 16GB/512GB with Big Sur 11.6 and M1 iPad Pro 16GB/1TB with iPadOS 15.0.2.

Please discuss your thoughts, suggestions.

Thank you!

Thank you for replying.

Hello,

Trying to sync without going through Apple Photos AND without going through iCloud. On the "Sync iPad with your computer" or the "Set up syncing between your Mac and iPad" window, the only choice that doesn't go through Apple Photos and/or iCloud, is the "Files" tab. This just backs up the iPad data to the Mac.

My description didn't explain very well. Here are some further details.

What I am trying to get is a sync process that will:

  1. Find the changed files automatically when connected and/or possibly keep them updated when on the same WiFi.
  2. And, will recognize changes on either device (Mac OR iPad) and update them so they mirror each other whichever device the change was made on (bi-directional sync). For example: files changed on Mac will update on the iPad, and, files changed on iPad update the Mac.

And again, without going through Apple Photos and/or iCloud.

Please share any further thoughts, solutions.

Thank you for the reply @barberlives123.

Yes, that partly answers the need. It is a way to get files from Mac to iPad.

But, if files change on either the Mac or iPad, will it sync the files that have been updated? I'll test that again and see, but I don't think it actually syncs files that have been updated. Even thought the button says "Sync" hmmmm.
