The model is an iPhone 7 Plus.
Eventually, I went to Apple because Best Buy was not correct. An Apple spokesperson said that the recall was only for iPhone 7. She asked me to reset the networking - that did not help.
Then she asked me to upgrade to the latest iOS. While the phone said 14.8 was the most recent, 15.1 was available. I was told to upgrade to 15.1 and that (iOS 15.1) seems to have fixed the problem.
