Stickies not showing up on new MacBook

So, I buy a new MacBook Air M1. Assume that Apple's backup system will migrate all my Stickies over to my new Mac.

But no, they are not there. So could it be that all I invested in using Apple Stickies was a total waste of time? Should I have used a 3rd-party Sticky app that would actually know how to migrate?

This is rather frustrating and embarrassing.

Any insights?
