Safari tab group closed tab keeps coming back?

I have a Safari Mac "Facebook" (named) tab group. I close one tab in the tab group, go to my main tab group, return to the Facebook tab group and the closed tab is open again. How do I stop that from reopening?

iMac 24″, macOS 12.0

We understand the situation and how you are noticing that a previously closed Safari tab will appear again automatically. We know that being able to manage your open tab and tab groups in Safari is a useful feature and we’re happy to help research what may be causing this.

If you have already been using these steps to manage your open tabs, we can help you more. To continue, it would be good to find out if this same behavior occurs while your Mac is started in safe mode. Safe mode can help isolate out the software that could be causing the tab to remain open. You can find instructions for safe mode in this next article:

If you continue to notice the same problem in safe mode, it may be best to clear your Safari browsing history and website data before arranging your tabs and tab groups again. Please note that this step would permanently remove your history and other website data from Safari. You can use these instructions to clear this Safari data:

Thank you for replying back, Bruce Kieffer. We understand that the previous troubleshooting steps did not resolve the issue for you.


To continue from here, can you tell us if you use any other devices with the same Apple ID account as your Mac? If so, do you notice that you are able to manage your tabs as expected in Safari on any other devices?

Thank you for keeping us updated on your situation, Bruce Kieffer. 


From what you are describing, this does not appear to be the expected behavior to see when managing Safari tabs across multiple devices.
