Does the mini have built-in speakers, or a built-in mic?

I'm just wondering, does it have speakers and/or a mic?

 iMac8,1  2.66 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo  4 GB 800 MHz DDR2 SDRAM, Mac OS X (10.6.4),  MacBookPro3,1  2.2 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo  4 GB 667 MHz DDR2 SDRAM

The Mini has a single built-in speaker, but it’s only useful for the startup chime, which always sounds whether there’s something plugged-in to the audio out or not (not sure if this is the case for the optical channel).

So I'll need external speakers to hear any sound (music, movies, etc.) right?

You can play music over the built in speaker, but the quality isn't the greatest, nor is the maximum volume. I would go for an externally connected amplified speaker set.

It is true, whether you're using HDMI, optical, or analog. The startup chime always plays via the internal speaker. And thank goodness for that.
