Hi sunshine175,

Welcome to the Apple Community.

Wondering if we are talking about text messages from your iPhone's Messasges app, or maybe iCloud.

If you have iCloud turned on:

An article from Apple Support

"Use Messages in iCloud:"

Says:

Because your messages and any attachments are stored in iCloud, you may have more free space on your iPhone when you need it. Message bubbles, whole conversations, and attachments you delete from iPhone are also deleted from your other Apple devices (iOS 11.4, iPadOS 13, macOS 10.13.5, or later) where Messages in iCloud is turned on.

If you turn off Messages in iCloud on an iPhone,

your message history may be included in a separate iCloud backup

Complete article: https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT204184

If you have never used iCloud

You could try:

  • checking the "recently deleted" folder
  • downloading saved text-messages from a back-up of your iPhone, when the messages were present.

ie: Learn how to restore your device from a backup on your computer.

Hope something here helps :-)
