trackpad needs double tap on M1 Macbook Air with Monterey

Since upgrading to Monterey on my M1 Macbook Air yesterday, I have noticed that I often need to double tap the trackpad for the gesture to be accepted whereas previous a single tap would be sufficient. It seems like it doesn't recognize the first tap. I have tried adjusting the touch required but that does not make a difference. This is definitely a Monterey related effect as this ** not happen with Big Sur prior to the upgrade.

Has anyone else seen this issue?

I've ran into same issue. mbp 13 m1. As you said, it started since upgrading to Monterey, from time to time first tap on trackpad doesn't work and i have to tap one more time. I've talk with apple support and i did all kind of things - changed trackpad settings, switched mac to the safe mode, reinstalled macOs, checked mac with apple diagnostics (ADP000 - no issues found) - none of it help. And yes, everything was fine on Big Sur

Congratulation, the jackpot of jackpots for possibly corrupting the Operating System to the point of needing to perform a clean installation. The amount of damages it may have done are being experienced now.

Remove Only by the Developers Specific Instruction. Do not Drag and Drop to Trash as this will make thing even worse. Also, do not install and UnInstaller as they to tend to makes things even worse than worse

As a Testament to the damages it does - please see the first 600 posting on the ASC all saying the same ting - Remove it

I was having trouble reinstalling Monterey but finally got that resolved this morning. I talked with Apple Support about the reinstall issue and mainly about the trackpad issue and I did open a ticket about it.

By the way, the trackpad problem still exists after the reinstall of Monterey (I had assumed it would still be there). The problem occurs in Safe Mode so I feel it is definitely a Monterey issue.

I'm curious with the other people that have observed this issue, are you running 1Password?

The reason I ask is that I did report a bug a few months ago that 1Password was able to reproduce, where sometimes when you select a website from 1Password, nothing opened. If you did the same thing a second time, it did open. 1Password reproduced this issue on an M1 mac and is working on a fix. What I'm seeing with the track pad issue almost feels like that same sort of problem. Like I said, just curious.

To add on to @dialabrain something running >>

Any Third Party Applications that will interfere with the normal operation of the OS, alter, modify, remove or delete or attempt to do so is an invitation for disaster and may require a Reinstallation of the OS.

This includes AntiVirus, Cleaners, Optimizes, UnInstaller etc.

The The Built in Security  is all that is required.

Thanks, but the problem is still there in Safe Mode. The problem is intermittent which of course makes it harder to track down.

You're welcome. The fact that it intermittent is one reason I suspect something running that occasionally "steals" the first tap. That and the fact that mine doesn't have the problem. But yes, could be hard to find the cause.
