How many people get a QR code? The CDC gives a paper card. Is there a way to download the data from their records

The latest update says you can download a digital record of Covid vaccine but it’s useless in its current state

The medical facility that performed your immunization needs to provide either a scannable QR code or an app link that has an Add to Wallet button. Or if they reported the vaccine status to the CDC there are other ways to get it. This describes all of the ways to get a verifiable record→Add verifiable COVID-19 vaccination information to Apple Wallet and Health - Apple Support, but note that your provider must support at least one of them.

Then the immunization records that your provider supplied are not compatible. Mine from my provider aren’t either. However, I got valid records from my state’s Docket app that are compatible, and also the vaccination site I used (which was not my regular provider) supplied links to vaccination records that could be added to the Wallet. And also the state web portal.

Interesting, my provider is a large regional hospital network. They’ve got every detail right down to the full name of the person who administered each vaccine. Hard to imagine what else could be required by Apple. I’ve never looked, but I’ll see if my state provides anything. Most likely I’ll just wait to see if Apple actually improves this to a usable feature.

All I know is I’ve granted every permission they requested. My full health records appear in the Health App, including the FHIR Data Source, with no notation of unreadable data for the vaccine entries. I didn’t make the system, I’m just attempting to use it. I’ve got the paper card in my wallet anyway, this just seemed like a nice addition.

Maybe I’m the rare exception, but it looks like there are plenty of us where this won’t function as currently implemented.

You’re probably not rare, but this is a new feature that requires cooperation between the health care providers and Apple; BOTH have to agree to participate. If the provider doesn’t participate there is nothing you can do other than try other sources. Most of the major vaccine providers do support it; all but one of my local hospitals does, CVS does, Walgreen’s does. And many state vaccine registries do; my state registry does.
