Microphone Sound Settings

Upon updating to Monterey, I was looking forward to having the same microphone features as on iPhone (Voice Isolation, Wide Spectrum). This is described in the Monterey features list, and the disclosure number says it should be available on recent Macs, not just Apple Silicon.

However, I've been unable to access this setting in a Zoom call or on FaceTime. Where would it display? Control Center doesn't seem to have anything, even in the Sound area. In Zoom, a microphone appeared in the menu bar, but it only highlighted the device, no settings. For FaceTime, it just has the orange dot on Control Center, but nothing else.

Is this feature available yet or for Intel Macs?

Hi umparrothead,

Thanks for the reply.

According to the Use FaceTime with your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch article, "Voice Isolation and Wide Spectrum are supported on iPhone 7 Plus and later, with the exception of iPhone SE (1st generation)."

Along with the FaceTime app on macOS Monterey with compatible models:

For compatibility with third-party apps, you'll want to check with the app developer, as we mentioned earlier. Here's the link again:

For example, we did find this page about these features with the Zoom app, which may help:

Yes, my iPhone has this capability in both FaceTime as well as other voice sharing apps (3rd party). My Mac does not show these options in Control Center when in a call, despite being a compatible model. The question isn't about iOS at all. It's about Monterey. It appears this is not yet supported on macOS for 3rd party apps or phone calls using FaceTime app. Or, there's a bug and it's not showing on my computer.

Hey umparrothead,

Thanks again for the reply, and clarification.

Looking at all the resources for these features in macOS Monterey, we see the description as "FaceTime call", which is usually a video call. An audio call is usually referred to as "FaceTime audio call".

We don't want to suppose that the feature is with FaceTime video only, so we'd recommend contacting Apple Support for clarification: Get Support

Keep in mind, this is for the FaceTime app only, we can't advise what's available for third-party apps.

Take care!

Hey there umparrothead,

Thanks for using Apple Support Communities! We see you have a question about some new macOS Monterey features, Voice Isolation and Wide Spectrum. We'd like to help.

These new features are for the FaceTime app only, and are only available on Mac models 2018 and later with macOS Monterey.

For any third-party apps, you'll need to check with the app developer for availability.
