How to setup new MacPro with periferals / monitors
I recently purchased a new 16" MacBook Pro and plan to use it as part of a media capture environment, initially has a personal home-based hobby. My plan is to have the following attached:
External Keyboard
External Mouse
2 HDMI / DP connected monitors (32"?)
Multiple USB printers (photo, paper, etc)
Multiple USB input devices (std scanner, photo scanner, film capture, slide capture, etc)
My background is in the Windows world. I know to some degree that tech is tech, but I want to ensure that I don't come into a solution with unchecked biases and miss some Apple nuances to setup a better mouse trap. In my head, a standard setup would typically involve a docking station, perhaps with a high end USB hub. I understand that there is no MacBook Pro docking station, and the video/usb hubs are 3rd party.
I don't know what is good or bad, or how best to take advantage of the MacBook Pro in such a configuration. I would appreciate any thoughts on what items might best be used for connectivity - hubs, cables, monitors, etc.
While I would prefer minimal connections to the MacBook Pro itself so as to more easy move from desk setup to grabbing the MacBook Pro and going to a couch or going remote. Nevertheless, am I better off taking the extra time and plugging the monitors directly into the ports on the MacBook Pro, instead of going through a hub?
Any other setup / design thoughts? I am interested in what the MacBook community has to say regarding the setup!
Thanks,
/john
PS: After I get the system operational and start learning the MacOS world, I will then need to start setting my the software side of my lil' project. So if anyone wants to throw in any thoughts related to the best software for capturing, digitizing and organizing a lifetime of photos, slides, file, video for archiving, organization, and presentation, do share! Thanks. -jav
