2021-007 Security Update Catalina - Pioneer DJ Rekordbox

Ok guys seems there are many people having big problems right now, both versions of Rekordbox (5 as well as 6) crash after installing this update, while running perfectly before. Crash reports all show an OpenGL issue which causes the crashes. I actually already know how to go around this, but it is no real solution. As far as I saw there are also issues with other programs, which have identical problems. So question to Apple: is there a way to get a patch, whether fron you or from Intel, as it is an OpenGL issue for sure, it must be some graphic driver problem or a glitch inside the update itself.

I, as well as many other people around the globe, would be happy to receive a solution from your side soon.

Never a good idea to install Apple updates just after they have been released, too often these days they can

introduce bugs of their own, as you have found out.

If this is deemed an Apple issue they may release another update or supplemental update in the next few days/ weeks.

Have you contacted the developers of the software like Rekordbox to see if they are aware of the issue and if they may be planning an update for their software.

Apple is not here to read your post, if you want to let Apple know the problem you are facing then you can let them know here,

https://www.apple.com/feedback/macos.html

If you know lots of others that have the same problem then you can pass the link on to them as the more people that make Apple aware of an issue the more likely they may do something.

Before you installed this Security Update did you make a full backup of your mac, if so you could restore your mac to that backup before the update to regain functionality.

Personally I made a complete time-machine backup before updating, so I could roll back. Other people who did not do so, they are in trouble right now, as DJs need to access their songs...

Resetting all the stuffs does not change anything.

Some people also already contacted Pioneer Support concerning this issue, no solution in form of a patch yet from them.

For the Rekordbox issue I can try to guide you through so that you can at least open it again (I personally am on Rekordbox 5, and it worked out for some people too)

You have to ooen finder an look up for the file

Rekordbox3.settings

This you have to open in TextEdit.

When ooen, you have to look up (use find) for

DisableOpenGL

When you look up in that line there should be written "0" at the end, replace the 0 with a 1, so that it will be "1"

Save the file and try to open up your Rekordbox. This worked out for many people, but take care that inside Rekordbox settings you do not change the waveform display speed. You have to leave tjis on low speed, of you change it to mid or high, it will crash again and you have to redo the whole editing.

Hope I could help some people to be able to open their Rekordbox again at least. It is far away of being THE solution though...hope Apple, Intel or Pioneer gonna resolve this issue soon.

For several of their computer DVD and Blu-ray drives, Pioneer issued specific firmware updates for Catalina. I suggest that you visit the appropriate Pioneer Rekordbox support site and see what firmware versions have been made available and if applicable to Catalina.

Otherwise, the advice you have already received.

Ok, guys, Mr Peter Van Ruiten in a Pioneer Group on FB gave another approach to solve the problem, where it may be possible to keep the graphics in a faster mode than with the solution I provided (i guess it will stay the last solution if nothing else works), so please give it a try before:

Leaving OpenGL enabled

<VALUE name="DisableOpenGL" val="0" />

and changing

<VALUE name="BasicOpenGL" val="0" />

into

<VALUE name="BasicOpenGL" val="1" />

Fixes the problem, without a notable penalty in graphics performance.

Hopefully this step helps out better then the one before, as it (as you noticed) reduced the graphic capabilities quite much.

Thanks go to Peter for finding out this one!

I have tried the OpenGL workaround and it does allow Rekordbox to open, however I have an issue with BPM stability once the tracks are playing, after being analysed of course. The BPM wanders up and down between its analysed value and makes it impossible to maintain a mix - anyone else have this issue??
