Big Sur 10.6.1 messed up MacBook Air M1

The Big Sur 10.6.1 update messed up the APFS on the Macintosh HD on my MacBook Air M1 (2020) laptop and on an external backup disk. Disk First Aid locks up the computer when testing the drives. The same upgrade has not hurt my MacBook Pro (2018). The Air seems to still work. Any solutions?

These are all helper apps that work fine on my MacBook Pro (2018) under Big Sur 10.6.1.

So, I updated the MacOS to Monterey 12.0.1 on the MacBook Air (2020), and that eliminated the disk confusion on the M1 Mac. The basic internet apps (Mail, Safari) work, wickedly fast, so it looks like my problem is solved.

Had no issue updating M1 MBA from 11.6 to 11.6.1 nor on M1 Mac Mini doing the same 11.6 to 11.6.1
