Waze app messing with my Honda CarPlay default volume

I have a 2019 honda accord with CarPlay. The Waze app has always messed with my master volume on the Accord head unit. The situation is this: iPhone XR connected to CarPlay and volume option goes to 30. As soon as i open the Waze app my master volume gets cut down to 11. I found that if you go into the "voice & sound" setting in Waze on the iPhone and toggle between "alerts only and On" the master volume will default back to 30. I've disabled everything i can think of in regards to Waze controlling sound or mic and i still have this issue wear the app cuts my volume down more than half until i do the toggling. This has been the case iOS13 thru 15, and my honda head unit with the latest updates. I drive about 100 miles a day all highway so the pain of dealing with Waze and police alerts is worth it. Apple maps w/ police alerts just not there yet, but man its annoying. Any ideas?
