Are you trying to play music, podcasts, audio books via your Apple Watch?

If so, then you will. need to pair a Bluetooth audio device. Bluetooth headphones or earbuds, a Bluetooth Speaker, etc...

You cannot play music directly from the Apple Watch speakers, as it drains the battery too fast. As it is the Apple Watch is only rated for 1 and a half hours of continuous talk time if you are making long phone calls, and that would assume half the time the other person was not talking, so the speaker would be idle.

Playing non-stop music via the speakers would kill the battery off in no time at all.

It sounds like you need to pair the AirPods to the Apple Watch, if you are going to forward songs to the Apple Watch.

Is it possible the reset unpaired your AirPods from your Apple Watch?

I know that if my AirPods are paired to my iPhone, I can listen to music from my iPhone, but use my Apple Watch to control my iPhone volume, start/stop music, skip songs, select playlists on the iPhone, etc…

I have an apple watch, apple AirPods and my iPhone bluetooth indicates that AirPods are connected so I have to start music on my iPhone but I cannot forward songs on my watch. This problem has been a problem for the last 6 months, on and off. I ask the watch to play apple musics and name a song and then I get the message about no audio playback available. so I cannot control apple music from my watch
