Thunderbolt to FireWire Adapter help

I am running a iMac (Retina 4K, 21.5-inch, 2017) operating system 10.14.6 (18G8022), using a Thunderbolt to FireWire Adapter. Firmware Version: 5.6.

I had one of my Newertech Guardian raids drives die on me, and now I can't seem to connect more than one raid at a time. I tested the cables each and they work fine. Could the Thunderbolt to FireWire Adapter have gone bad?. I am at a loss. only five of the drives can be connected via USB 2, the other two can only be connected by firewire 800 or USB 3 which the latter doesn't seem to be working ether. any help would be appreciated. Thank you.
