Why is iCloud backup taking 7 hours?
I'm running a good wifi connection, but first time iCloud backup took about 7 hours, (about 90GB) on an iPhone 12 mini. What a failure! How's this even possible in 2021!!?

90 GB is a lot of data. The time to back up depends on your Wi-Fi+ISP speed and whether you were connected to power the whole time (the backup stops when the phone sleeps, unless it is plugged in). It also depends on how your data are organized; the backup is a SQLite database, with one file per data item. And each file must be created on the server; for example, my 16 GB backup consists of 42,000 files.

Because it is your firs time backing up to the cloud, ideally you do it at night before you go to bed, connect to wifi and power source and lock the device and let it back up.
The next time you back up it won't take as long.
You do realize that you do have the ability to create a backup on your Mac, so if you wish to do that rather than iCloud, you could save yourself that money you are accusing Apple of trying to take, and they would not have any of your data either. Then you also would not have a reason to complain about the speed of the iCloud servers. Good luck.
Wow, someone cared to explain the obvious. I was trying to point out that waiting 7-10 hours to copy a few files is not a technology worthy of 2021, an I was actually pointing out the fact the iCloud servers are EXTREMELY slow at data transfer and also pointing the fact Apple doesn't allow you to simply copy your iPhone to a Mac (!?). They simply don't want you to do that, because it doesn't produce income like a paid icloud produce. Paid and extremely slow. Anyone who says it's normal to wait 9 hours for a back-up in 2021, think again please.

You should read your own post and reflect on that statement.
