Hello gcole218,

We see that you have questions about navigating iPhone 12.

"Use gestures on your iPhone with Face ID to quickly navigate, multitask, adjust settings, and access all the things you do most.” you can learn more here: Use gestures to navigate your iPhone with Face ID

Cheers!

one big change is the move from touch id to face id. the actual pressing of the button once is now swiping upwards. this is to unlock, or also to get back to the home screen from any app or even to move back to the first home screen from any other home screen. double-pressing to show the open apps was replaced by swiping up from the bottom to about the middle of the screen and very briefly holding the finger there until the cards appear. screenshots were also changed as you used to need to press home+power, now it's volume up button (left top) and power (on the right).

hope this helps
