Siri language auto detection

Those of us who deal with more than one language on a regular basis probably have run into the problem that Siri mire or less makes a mess out of pronouncing text that is not in the default language the iPhone is set to. For example, if your phone is set to English and you receive a message in say Spanish, it will read out the message like a native English speaker who has zero knowledge of Spanish (as lamented already 2.5 years ago).

Any navigation system including Apple Maps runs into the same problem when you travel through a country whose place names are in a different language than the system language. This latter application should be an easily solvable problem as it shouldn’t be difficult for the mapping application to know what the local language is. Yes, not everyone would like to have the local pronunciation of place names but this can be easily remediated via the user declaring which languages they understand.

Detecting the language in written form for messages shouldn’t be difficult either. Inside the Translation app, Siri can already detect which of the two selected languages is spoken. So the code to detect a language already exists within speech recognition, at least after you narrow down the choice to only two options.
