Watch light never turns off? “Always on” IS NOT ON

We have had this watch for less than a week. It did not do this at first, but after a day or two, it does not turn off. The “Always On” is not on. I don’t know if metal or glass is somehow making contact and tripping the touch sensor, but this item has not been in our possession long enough for me to think it was any normal wear and tear or misuse.

Hello,

This may be related to watch orientation or wrist detection settings.

Lock or unlock Apple Watch - Apple Support

“Lock automatically

By default, your Apple Watch locks automatically when you’re not wearing it. To change the wrist detection setting, do the following.

  1. Open the Settings app  on your Apple Watch.
  2. Tap Passcode, then turn Wrist Detection on or off.“

If not settings, this could be caused by something such as dirt or oils on the lens.
