No more Icon Preview after Monterey Install

Mostly my icon preview disappeared.

I said "mostly" as some previews are still visible on my desktop, but all new files and most of my folders content previews show file with just the default icon (pc style) and no more with the preview icon.

See in the image below an old image on my desktop and a new screeshoot just grabbed.

Tried the spotlight trick I've read around on the internet (privacy in/privacy off) to let spotlight recreate the folder index, no result.

Tried the terminal spotlight approach with the command

sudo mdutil -E /

and no result again.

Tried to give a look on "finder/view/show view options" and all seems right (in the past there was a "use as defaults" button below but I don't see it anymore, I don't know if this is normal or not - see menu image attached).

Any idea how to solve the problem?

I have a:

MacBook Pro (15-inch, 2018)

2,9 GHz 6-Core Intel Core i9

32 GB 2400 MHz DDR4

Radeon Pro Vega 20 4 GB

still working well except this.

MacBook Pro 15″, macOS 12.0

tommasocora,

Thanks for your response and going through the settings.

To keep narrowing this down, let's see if this happens in safe mode: How to use safe mode on your Mac. Here's why we're suggesting this as a next step, because safe mode checks the startup disk and also deletes some system caches too. This guide also gives you steps to take if the issue is still happening, and if it doesn't continue.

Kind regards.

Hello tommasocora,

From your post we can see you're having an issue with your icon preview while using macOS Monterey.

From what you shared, you've been searching around looking for ways to get this working. We'd suggest going back to check the settings: Change view options in the Finder on Mac. This might feel really simple based on what you've already completed but it's good to just review all settings. Go through each of the steps and focus in on step 4. You might need to revert to Defaults then make any adjustments.

We hope this helps!
