Where did the multitask button go?

Just a few days ago, I purchased an iPad pro 11-inch (3rd gen). Multitasking is enabled, and I can swipe in order to split screens, but the button has disappeared. Why? Am I just not seeing it? The iPad is for an old grandmother who has a much easier time with buttons than swipes and gestures.

Presumably your iPad is running iPadOS15. Ensure that the iPad has been updated to the most recent version - currently iPadOS 15.1.

Unlike iPadOS14 and earlier versions, multi-tasking cannot now be disabled from settings. Multi-tasking has received a significant overhaul, simplifying its use.

Key to accessing and controlling multi-tasking is the small “three-dot” button that is found at the top-centre edge of the screen.
