New 2021 MacBook Pro will not connect with iCloud photos

iCloud photos does not connect with my new MacBook Pro 2021. I have gone to Preferences/iCloud and checked Photos. There was no ask for password or options option. When I open Photos there is the "Welcome to Photos" window telling me to activate Photos in Preferences, which I did. I have a photo library in Pictures called Photo Library2 Photoslibrary. iCloud photos works normally on my old MacBook, iPad and iPhone X. MacOS 12. Thanks in advance.

MacBook Pro 14″, macOS 12.0

Makes sure that your library is the system library. Preferences > general

It seems that you may have created a new library (hence the "2"). If you don't have any images downloaded, set it to the system library. Or, hold down the Option key whilst opening Photos to select the correct library
