Yes, these are phishing attempts, as Apple does not send these types of emails out. To be safe, ensure you do not click any links in emails you are suspicious about, and instead go directly to AppleID.apple.com or iCloud.com directly by typing them in to your browser. When you log in, you will see if it works, or if you see a message about needing to update info, or if your account is locked.
