This happened to me as well. Apparently something broke the sound on the AppleTV 4K when it updated its system software from tvOS 15 to tvOS 15.1. Both my older and newer AppleTV 4K devices stopped outputting sound after the update, but worked fine the day before. The problem appears to be linked to the device it is connected to. My AppleTV 4K is normally connected to a Sony AV Receiver STR-DH830, which stopped playing sound after the update. However, when I moved the AppleTV device to my Sony 65" TV, it worked fine. After spending hours changing configurations and failing to fix it, I connected my older AppleTV 4K to the AV Receiver. It worked perfectly... until it performed an automatic system software update, at which point the older AppleTV 4K also stopped playing sound. So yeah, it's definitely caused by the update. I hope Apple reads this and fixes the problem in the next update, and SOON!
