I have a PDF that I've been adding hundreds of annotations to (mostly text objects). I opened it up today and while I see the annotations in the page thumbnails, they're not present in the document itself. This is many hours of work that now seems to be gone. I see that others in the forum have had similar problems in the past, but I don't see a solution. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I just added annotations (highlight, underline, strikethrough, rectangle, circle, and text to a PDF on macOS 11.6.1. I moved this over to macOS 12.0.1 and opened it in Preview with all annotations exactly where they were on Big Sur — displayed on thumbnails and the PDF document.

Were all of the annotations originally added in Preview, or via PDF editors, Adobe Acrobat Reader DC, and other PDF viewers? On Mac, or Windows and Mac?
