How to pair Apple Watch that I bought from someone else.

i purchased an Apple Watch on eBay. When I try to pair the watch with my iPhone, I receive a message saying the watch can’t be paired with the suggestion that I unpair or erase the watch in order to pair it to my phone. However, the seller said he unpaired it before shipping it to me. Any suggestions?
