Yes Apple now sells RAM on a limited basis:

https://www.apple.com/us/search/16GB-DDR4-ECC-Memory-Kit?page=1&sel=accessories&src=alp&f=memory&fh=460f

but what is listed today is only for Mac Pro desktops and is shown as AMD brand.

Not all iMacs have user upgradeable RAM. This Apple article discusses which iMacs have RAM that:

  • can be upgraded by the user,
  • must be upgraded by a professional†
  • cannot be upgraded at all after leaving the factory:

Install memory in an iMac - Apple Support

† — the article points out that not all Apple Authorized Service Providers will do this difficult upgrade.

Remember that Apple does not manufacture RAM, They buy it like everyone else. Micron RAM is most common in Macs I have bought lately. Micron is the parent company of Crucial, and most OWC (macsales.com) RAM I've bought recently has the little Micron glyph silkscreened on the card.

You can get first-quality RAM on the open market for a reasonable price. All our Mac with expanded RAM have OWC—never had a issue.

1 - only for Mac Pros. Not for the "consumer" models.

2 - no. But it's best to be installed in matching pairs, i.e. 4 and 4, 8 and 8. Not 4 & 8, etc.

The only two vendors most of us here recommend are MacSales.com (OWC) and Crucial.com.

As you've already been asked why do you want to add more memory. How much do you have now and what model and year is your Mac?

You ask two good questions. I haven't checked recently, but I think that Apple does sell memory cards. However, we here have found that when buying memory, it is generally less expensive when purchased elsewhere. We would suggest that you check two sites: mac sales.com and crucial.com. They have most any memory you might need and provide excellent support. You can enter the year and model of your Mac and they will tell you what you can use as well as what the limit of memory is that your Mac can accept. Yes, you should add or replace memory in pairs with the same capacity, not with a single card.
