Additionally, when I go to the apple icon on the top left, select about this mac and then software update I don't see an option to download any new software.

Yes, you can upgrade to Mojave, Catalina, Big Sur, or the latest which is Monterey.
Starting with Catalina, older 32-bit applications will no longer run. So you may want to verify that you are prepared for that if you go past Mojave. In fact you should check on all apps that are important to you, that they all will run (or that you can update them so they will) under whatever new MacOS you choose to move to.
Sorry, 10.13 is as high as your Mac can go.
It's not a good idea to post your serial number and I've asked the Hosts to remove it.

What year and type of Mac do you have? About This Mac will show that. Some Macs cannot go past 10.13, others can. It depends on the year and model.
If you have a Macbook Pro from mid-2012 or later, you can install Mojave from this page
