Belkin hdmi 2.1 Certified??

Just purchased 4 of the Belkin Ultra HD High Speed HDMI cables for $29.95 each from the Apple Store. Box says Dolby Vision HDR.

The Customer Service reps knew nothing about how HDMI cables are certified by HDMI.org.

Are these cables certified 2.1? There is no hologram on the box per instructions from HDMI.org.

Apple TV (4th generation)

HDMI cables are not certified to a HDMI standard (although there is a relation), instead they are rated for maximum (tested) speed/bandwidth: 5 Gbps (“Standard” (2002)), 10 Gbps (“High Speed” (2009)), 18 Gbps (“Premium High Speed” (2013)), 48 Gbps (“Ultra High Speed” (2017)). That is what matters.

Devices with HDMI ports have their ports certified to a HDMI standard.

Belkin UltraHD High Speed 4K HDMI Cable (2m) [$29.95] — 48 Gbps — suitable for all HDMI 2.1 features

Belkin UltraHD 4K HDMI Cable (2 m) [$19.95] — 18 Gbps — suitable for all HDMI 2.0 features

Belkin is a listed HDMI adopter up to HDMI 2.1 specification products.

Are these cables certified 2.1? There is no hologram on the box per instructions from HDMI.org.

Certified HDMI cables rated 48 Gbps comply with specifications designed to ensure support for all HDMI 2.1 features.

Apple TV (4th generation)

If you have an Apple TV (4th generation), then none of this matters, as those models have an HDMI 1.4 port, which wouldn’t really benefit from cables supporting more than 10 Gbps.

I appreciate your helping me. Thank you!

In my research on HDMI.org, some HDMI ethernet cables are certified and are noted as such by a hologram on the outer container that can me scanned to verify they are 2.1 certified. You might want to do a little checking. Fake cables are all over the internet. I do "know" that the Belkins I purchased at Apple are really Belkins. Belkin's website points out to be aware of fake Belkin cables and tells you their approved sellers.

I do take exception with you comment that Apple employees not knowing about other companies products is acceptable. In my sales job we made our own product on sight and sold it directly to our customers. We also sold many other products where we were simply resellers. It was my responsibility to tell our customer about those products, how they were to be used, proper way to install them, when they would help, what to expect, etc. I couldn't say, "Call the company that made them because I have no idea what they are or how to use them." If I sold it, I knew the product. And for crying out loud, none of the Apple employees that talked to me knew if it was even 2.1???

To share even more frustration, I asked if I would get 6 months of free Apple TV+ since I purchased 2 of the Apple TV 4K's. I was thinking I would get 3 months for each Apple TV 4K purchase. Both of the Apple people helping said they didn't know and that I would have to call Apple. I then said, "You mean to tell me that nobody here can answer that question?" At that point, they went to the manager and he didn't know. He told them he thought it was only a 3 month deal based on my Apple ID.

Heck, the manager of the Apple Retail store didn't know. So, I came home and found out that the 3 month free deal is only good for a single purchase no matter how many Apple things I purchased. I'm okay with that but it sure seems the manager should know his own products.

I made a mistake saying I have the 4th generation Apple TV. I actually have two of the newest 4K Apple TV's. Not the 4th generation. It needs the 2.1 to maximize it's performance.

I must say I am very pleased with my new Apple TV purchases. But I wasted 3 hours driving to the store when I could have gotten my entire order delivered to my front door the next day. And I have always had great experiences with the Geniuses.

But the "floor" people I spoke with are probably there for a reason. LOL
