time machine with western digital passports

Just copy and paste the HOUSE from Finder into the external drive of your choice formatted to Mac OS Extended and consider this a usable backup for when another apple product goes dark and the new one is placed beside it EMPTY! ;-)

Hope this helps

Are you saying that you don't like that Time Machine uses APFS? APFS is the new and superior Apple file system and now used universally with modern versions of macOS for Time Machine. If so, your issue is not specific to any one drive. That is how Time Machine treats all external drives and is necessary now for all new backups moving forward.

As far as this;

Making them READ only and no write.

Time Machine APFS drives do operate in read-only to the end-user. That is normal and proper behavior. A user should not ever attempt to manually add or remove data to a Time Machine backup. It will ruin your backups. If that is your concern, then that should not be an issue.

I don't see why it is a big deal to have your external drives as Mac OS Extended (Journaled) instead of APFS. They are both Apple file systems. Am I missing something else?

Sorry Jack, you are incorrect.

I answered and corrected any of my ‘issues’ by finding exactly what I would want to save as a backup making Time Machine irrelevant.

You see, I wanted my Four 2TB Wd Passports to be formatted to exactly what I want, because, I own them. They have been bought with my money. So Time Machine needs to not react in an opposite direction than mine by grabbing and reformatting the WD Drives making them APFS instead of what I Just Formatted Them To Be!

Making them READ only and no write.

And I really don't have time, my work needs to be backed up immediately, no time for petty childish games played by a company that does what they want to do instead of making their customers needs be done.

Thanks though for your offer to help.
