Behringer UMC204HD disconnecting

Hi - I am using a Behringer UMC204HD as my interface. I have one guitar and one mic plugged into it. Very frequently the device will disconnect when I'm recording and I will receive an error message stating the device is no longer available. I have to unplug it and plug it back in. It's almost like the device or computer is 'overloading,' which I find hard to believe because it's only two inputs, the input levels are correct, nothing else is running on the machine...

I am running a 2020 Macbook Air with the M1 chip. The same thing happened with a 2017 Macbook Pro running Garageband.

Trying to troubleshoot. Wondering if it could possibly be the USB cable? Obviously this is very frustrating and any help you can provide would be appreciated. Thank you.
