pages slows my keyboard

I have a 100 pages document with several photo's and pictures. When I type in text the letters only appear after delay of several seconds. this phenomenon only appears in Pages!

I am typing this text here without any delay. What can be the case? Any suggestions?

It is a wireless bluetooth Apple extended keyboard I checked and rechecked all system preferences and unhooked the keyboard, no luck.

Hello Thomas,

If you test in safe mode, does the same thing happen? Safe mode loads only what it needs to run.

To start in safe mode, begin with the computer powered off. Follow the directions found here, depending on what type of Mac you have: How to use safe mode on your Mac - Apple Support

The computer will take longer to start in safe mode, and the screen may have some distorted video as it starts up. This is normal. Once you are logged in, use the system and test to see if the issue continues.

If everything seems to work as expected, go ahead and restart the computer normally and test again. Starting in safe mode forces the computer to run some disk checks similar to First Aid. This can resolve some issues.

If the issue returns, this would indicate something running at startup is causing the issue. We would follow these steps to remove login items and see if that helps: Remove login items to resolve startup problems on your Mac - Apple Support

Cheers.

Since your Mac is lethargic while using Safari, or Pages, then there is something else in play. It might be a Time Machine backup, or Spotlight indexing following that Time Machine backup. Most of us frown on the use of Clean My Mac (I do), and you should remove it, as well as any installed anti-virus software. Then reboot your Mac and reassess your interactive performance with Pages or Safari. The latter can slow down if you haven't cleaned its Cache, or History lately, or have conflicting extensions in it.

Even with the first paragraph completed, historically, the more images and non-text content you place in a Pages document, the slower your interaction becomes with it. Doesn't matter what processor or RAM you throw at it.

I'm working on a iMac with i3 3,6 ghz and 16 gb memory. the document size is 358,5 mb.

According to Clean my Mac there's enough memory left (7 or 8 gb). Although I think your suggestion might be helpful I'm not going to do it because the document is nearly finished and I don't want to risk extra work or worse.

I now have the same problem typing this message in safari? The only apps open are Safari, Mail and Pages.

Thanks for your help

Hello Thomas,

From your post, it appears you are having an issue with a document in Pages slowing the performance of the computer down.

A couple of things that would be interesting to know in isolating what is causing this is if this only happens with this one document.

What happens if you split the document into smaller pieces?

What are the specifications of the Mac that is being used? How much RAM is installed? A 100 page document with photos could use up a substantial amount of system resources.

We would suggest separating it out into chapters or sections and seeing if the same issue occurs.

Have a good day.
