My external AppleTV will not play my purchased movies in their native HDR/Dolby Vision format. It will only display them in standard definition. However, the AppleTV will play movies from other apps (ie - HBOmax, Prime, etc.) in HDR/Dolby Vision.
Please help, I have a good number of purchased movies that I cannot watch in the correct format.

From your post it appears you are having an issue playing purchased movies in their higher definition.
Assuming these were purchased from iTunes, we would start by checking the setting for video resolution for purchases. Take a look here for steps on how to do that: Change iTunes movie and TV show settings on Apple TV - Apple Support
