macOS Monterey and Siri

Siri no longer functional after updating to Monterey on 2020 Mac Mini M1. All searches using Siri on the Mac generate this response: "finder hasn't added support for that with siri" Anyone else having issues?

Hi fotoz,

We understand you're experiencing an issue with Siri on your Mac mini, and we'd like to share a resource that can help.

Check it out here: How to use Siri on your Mac

Specifically, check out the section below:

"If Siri doesn't hear or understand you

  • Make sure that you're using macOS Sierra or later.
  • Choose Apple menu  > System Preferences, then check your microphone selection in Sound preferences or Siri preferences. Or test with a different mic, such as the mic in your AirPods or Apple Earphones. If you're using a Mac mini or Mac Pro, you must connect a mic for Siri to hear you.
  • If Siri seems to hear you but not understand you, make sure that your language and dialect are selected in Siri preferences.
  • If Siri can't connect to the network or asks you to try again in a little while, check your Internet connection."

Regards.

fotoz,

Thanks for that additional information.

Let's look into this further together. Next, start your Mac mini in safe mode, and test for the issue there: How to use safe mode on your Mac

If the issue persists, create a new admin user account and check for the issue again. This helps to determine if the issue is user-specific or system-wide. Here's how: Set up users, guests, and groups on Mac

Thanks!

Thanks for the response. I didn't bother with safe mode as I'm confident this is a known issue or update (?) with Monterey. Glad to learn that you've tried safe mode as a control.

Apple's website https://www.apple.com/macos/monterey/features/ lists Siri functions for Monterey as "playing your favorite song" or "calling someone" and she will still open applications, those do work, however, they are the least useful of the tasks that Siri used to be able to accomplish. I'm hopeful that the next macOS update will reinstate full Siri functionality, I used her often on my Macs to locate specific documents, was very useful.

Siri doesn't work with Finder in Monterey. Even asking Siri to Open Finder doesn't work.

I contacted Apple Support on Twitter and they said it's not supported which doesn't make a lot of sense. Why would Apple remove that feature and still advertise it as a feature on their web site.

Then again Apple removed the ability to ask Siri questions about the Mac such as "how much space do I have left" in Big Sur 11.3 and that's also still listed on the web site, so who knows.

For what it's worth I have a M1 MacBook Air and have already tried Safe Mode and creating a new user. The problem still occurred so it's a problem with Monterey 12.0.1.
