Headphones (plugged in) no longer work in the mac mini. They do work in another device. They are chosen and show in the menu bar. But no sound. Not using bluetooth because it was unreliable and now I can't get it to work either. But i'm asking about the jack today.

DId they stop working when you updated to Monterey?
Try starting in Safe Mode

Then start regularly.
Try the Safe mode then regular boot.
It could be a hardware problem. When you insert the plug with the Mac on do you hear any static?
Thank you for this board, my go to when I have a problem with my mac mini (2014). I too had this problem with the jack not working. Tried all the suggestions, reset NVRAM/PRAM, SMC, checked sound settings (yes headset appears). Did not try safe mode. What did work was updating from Big Sur to Monterey ... not sure why, but happy it now works.
This works on my M1 iMac running Monterey
When I googled how to do that on an M1 Mini the results say that there is no SMC or PRAM on the M1s.
