Migration: Intel to M1 via thunderbolt cable

Is it still possible to migrate using Migration Assistant and a Pro Cable between a 2019 Intel MBP to a new M1 MBP?

It seems that the default settings in Migration Assistant force you to do it via WiFi? Not sure why the support documents would no longer mention this much faster option either? https://support.apple.com/en-ca/HT204350

Thank you for any comments.

There seems to be a little more to it than just connecting them together. Somebody needs to complete the Networking information, possibly including what IP addresses to use each end, or use a special mode.

You could put one into Target Disk Mode. It used to be only for Firewire, but they have continued to support it using ThunderBolt.

If you have two computers with ThunderBolt-3 ports, you can use a genuine ThunderBolt-3 cable to connect them together. A new Network connection method will appear in System preferences > Network, and you can choose it and give it any missing information such as DNS server address. The other Mac will then connect according to this article:

Thank you, but every Mac before M1 could migrate via Migration Assistant running on both computers, or with the old one in target disk mode, connected by a thunderbolt cable. It makes no sense that it can now only be done by wifi, when thunderbolt cable has been the best way to do it in the past. As for cable, I am referring to the Pro Cable that Apple sells.

Has anyone done it yet?
