TV error: "This monitor does not support HDR playback"

Been watching the Foundation series on Apple TV software from my MacBookPro for several weeks now without issues. Suddenly, I get this error when I tried replaying an episode for the 3rd time: "This monitor does not support HDR playback." WHY??!?! 🤬

Now, it refuses to display all movies and shows. w-t-f?! Force quitting changes nothing. Restarting MacOS doesn't improve it. Upgrading to 11.6.1 from 11.4.1 doesn't fix it.

This whole time I've been using my external Mitsubishi monitor with zero problems. I wished Foundation was on Netflix! TV is the worst piece of 💩 I've seen on my MacBookPro. If it wasn't for the Foundation series, I would truly have zero reason to use it.

Aside from reverting to my one week old backup, is there anything I could do to fix this? Perhaps a configuration file? Just seems that perhaps some config file may have been corrupted in a recent security update.

Okay, after playing with the preferences, I may have figured out a workaround...

From TV > Preferences > Playback:

  • Changed Streaming Options: Data Saver
  • Changed Download Options: Most Compatible SD (480p)
  • Checked Download Multichannel Audio
  • Use Viewing History Unchecked.

Tapped OK button. Closed app. Relaunched App. Then reverted my playback preferences to High Quality Streaming and Downloads.

Now it won't even open Foundations series. But it will play one of my Sci-Fi movies.

So, I deleted the entire Foundation series from my library.

Then searched for Foundation and started the last episode I wanted to watch.

It started! Yea...

Bloody strange TV won't play a series when I download it, but will stream it at HD... Truly 🤬💩 app...

In short, it seems if you delete the movie/series from your library and restart it, it will display.

Hopes this helps someone else.
