I have a 2012 MacBook Pro and I cannot upgrade the operating system from Yosemite to anything else (Catalina ideally) because I cannot upgrade my app store.
When i go to software updates it takes me to version 2.0 of the app store, which doesn't allow me to update to any OS! I have no idea how to upgrade the App store app so i can access OS updating
Would somebody please be able to help me with this issue?

macOS Catalina is the latest version compatible with your MacBook Air. If macOS Catalina doesn't appear in the Mac App Store, you can download the installer directly from Apple Support at this website using Safari.
The links for High Sierra through Big Sur currently don't work. Wait a few hours and try again, or click here and use the one for El Capitan or Sierra.

Unfortunately those Safari links send me streight to the same app store which doesnt show the OS upgrades - I think the problem is solely the app store app I have on my laptop - how do I update my app store app?
