Hello. How are you trying to connect your SuperDrive to your iMac M1? Are you making sure to use one of the adapters listed in the article here? You will need to make sure that the USB-C to USB-A adapter you are using provides enough power to your SuperDrive as it otherwise may not function as expected.

I have been trying to access my Superdrive for Hours.
Yes, I have the Apple connector. M1 running Bug Sur
The drive powers us, I can hear the CD Spinning
It doesn't show up on the desktop or in Finder
I had same problem and could not get it connected till I purchased a USB-C to USB-A adapter and connected directly to iMac M1. Was very happy I finally worked. Very disappointed when I realized som of my picture CD's family made in Europe, you have to change zone and that can only be done 5 times and then it doesn't work any more!
I bought an Apple USB-C to USB adapter and my SuperDrive works fine. Other adapters did not work.
Thanks
Must be connected directly to Mac not through a hub.
I got it to work. First, I had to get the CD out of the drive. No easy task since there is no way to manually eject. I used a different brand of CD and voila, it worked
