Camera Not Working After Sleep on iMac

Hello Everyone,

I have what appears to be the common problem of the Built-in camera on my late 2015 iMac (OS X 10.14.4) not working after the computer has been asleep. It usually works after a restart but not always.

I know there is way to make it work using Terminal, by pasting sudo killall VDCAssistant, clicking Return and then entering the computer password when prompted. This never fails to work. One comment I read also suggested entering sudo killall AppleCameraAssistant after that. I don't know why as it doesn't seem to make any difference.

Anyway, I use my computer for Zoom meetings every day, waking it from sleep twice a day to do so and it's a real hassle to have to go through this nonsense all the time.

Is there a tried and tested permanent solution to this problem?

Thanks!

iMac 21.5″, macOS 10.13
