Hi,

I nee to back up iMac computer. I have iCloud, why is the messages requiring external device for the time machine?

iMac 27″, OS X 10.10

Time Machine and Messages Does the Time Machine backup no longer include backing up Messages to an external hard drive? I have previously backed up my 2015 MacBook as recently as 2020 with "Messages" showing up in the backup on an external hard drive, but this is not happening with the 2021 MacBook. Not sure if it is due to the new laptop or a software update. TLDR: Does Time Machine back up your Messages?

Time Machine can't back up to the iCloud. If you want to store your documents there, you'll need to manually upload them.
