Hi, I realised that on my new MacBook Pro with M1 Pro chip the "sort by size" doesn't work correctly.
Please see the attached picture. I copied data from external hard drive to Documents, and it seems that the size is calculated correctly, however it is sorted between folders with zero bytes.
I tried relaunching Finder, restarting the Mac, and manually deleted .DS_Store using terminal but nothing helps.
Any help appreciated!

I didn’t see you mention if you turned this on. Folder size is not automatically calculated. All are zero bytes unless you set the Finder to calculate folder sizes. Technically, a folder doesn’t have a size. You can have the Finder calculate the size of the visible contents of the folder.
The setting is in the View Options—calculate all sizes. It doesn’t happen immediately. I have no idea what it shows for items in the cloud and not stored locally.

I did a few more tests...
The issue is only with the default Documents folder, all other folders (and sub-folders etc) work correctly. When I right-clicked and chose "Duplicate" the newly created folder was sorted correctly. I also created a new user on the Mac, added a bunch of data to the default folders in the home directory and the only folder that didn't work correctly was the Documents folder.
It seems to me that this is a bug in OS. I'm using Monterey 12.0.1. Can someone else confirm that they have the same issue?
EDIT: I confirmed it on another MacBook Pro running Big Sur 11.6. Definitely a bug in the OS.
Thanks for your response. I have turned that option on. As I mentioned in my second post, this seems to be a bug in (at least) Big Sur and Monterey. Default "Documents" folder is not sorted correctly. If you have the newest OS, you could check that for yourself.
