Turn off automatic zoom out in apple maps on iPhone 13 using v15.1

How do you disable the automatic zoom out to show the entire route that Apple Maps does every minute? If apple is listening, I have to re-center & re-zoom in every minute or so, which is annoying to downright dangerous. How do I keep the map zoomed in & following my progress, as it used to do?

The only similar question I could find was from a year ago & said to select a route & hit 'Go', then tap on the first written direction, but that did absolutely nothing.

This is on the iPhone 13 running 15.1. My previous iPhone didn't have this problem.
