I've bought the Black Magic egpu via Apple website and haven't really been able to use it as it is not compatible with BigSur. I had to downgrade back to Mojave, which is quite frustrating considering that apple states its compatibility and sells the egpu in their online stores. I want to upgrade to Monterey, but I am afraid to upgrade and see the egpu obsolete.
Has the compatibility issues with Black Magic egpu been resolved in Monterey?

No, it is not fun indeed and quite frustrating. I bought the top of the range in Dec 2019 and still saw the need to get the eGPU. Sadly, not much later Apple released BigSur and I saw it completely useless. Hey ho... :/
You might use an extensive Google search for a terminal command that would allow the current system or at least Big Sur to recognize the unit. Someone out there in TV land might know. Also you might contact the customer service of the unit.

Thank you for your reply, I do appreciate it, but it does not answer my question. I have read and followed this article, and it does not apply to BigSur, not even Catalina. I had to run a script when I had Catalina on my laptop as there is no "Prefer external GPU" option. :/
Apparently this unit is not applicable since Catalina. Apple has upgraded their GPU’s in the current RISC based machines to the point that there is no reason for them to offer increased backward compatibility to a time when their GPU was inferior.
It's never fun when your horse and buggy has been left in the dust by a new Model T.
