hp printer drivers for mac os 12.0.1 ?

I am trying to get an HP DeskJet 3050 to work. I can send a print job to the print queue, which on the software side looks like it's spooling up and going through the printer, the queue is cleared, then nothing prints out.

I have tried using the generic drivers, the HP DeskJet drivers (non-specific), and I downloaded the HP printer drivers from https://support.apple.com/kb/DL1888

When I open the pkg inside the disk image, it tells me I need Mac OS 12.0 or earlier.

Any help?

Running Mac OS Monterey 12.0.1 on a mid 2015 15" MacBook Pro.

UPDATE: Problem solved, with caveat

This solution on the hp forum worked for my Deskjet 3054 (Deskjet 3050 J610 series): https://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Printer-Setup-Software-Drivers/Solution-to-install-Mac-OS-12-0-1-drivers-link-attached/m-p/8236325

The downside is I had to install unsigned software, which is a security risk. I'm frustrated that apple doesn't just make something official available.
