External CD/DVD drive for M1 Mac Mini -- connect via hub

I'm seeking advice on an external optical disk drive for my new Mac Mini. I'm looking for one that can be attached to a hub.

I have an Apple USB SuperDrive – A1329 / MD564LL/A - but the Mini will not recognize the drive if it is connected through a hub.

Any suggestions on a device -- or what I need to look for in the technical specs for a compatible drive -- will be appreciated.

Thanks!

Hi all ..

Still hoping for some guidance here.

I have 2 questions:

  1. Is there an external CD drive that will be recognized by my Mac Mini if connected through a USB 3 / USB type A hub?
  2. If I invest in a USB type C /Thunderbolt 3 hub -- will that enable an external CD drive to be recognized by the Mini?

With the number of us who jumped over to an M1 Mac in the past year-plus, certainly, others have rin into the same challenge and found a solution.

Thanks!
